RimTox

Background

Some men and women enjoy being on the receiving end of anal sex. After all, the anus and rectum have plenty of nerve endings which contribute to pleasure. Insertion of a phallus or sex toy may result in pain particularly if the anal sphincters are hyperactive creating high tension and resistance to penetration. The internal anal sphincter is under involuntary control, while the external anal sphincter is voluntary. Regardless of how much someone is willing or able to consciously relax, the involuntary component may continue to keep the internal sphincter under high pressure. A treatment designed to relax the internal anal sphincter without the risk of incontinence would make anal intercourse more pleasurable.

Anti-wrinkle treatment known as neurotoxins (“Tox”) or neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® relax muscles temporarily. These products are all derived from Botulinum Toxin A. “Tox” has various medical indications. They may be used to relax muscles of facial expression, treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), address chronic migraine headaches, improve erections, etc. One indication of interest is its use to treat anal fissures which result from chronically high anal sphincter tone. This makes “Tox” ideal for the purposes of enhancing the sexual experience of anal intercourse.

What is RimTox?

RimTox™ is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical, in-office procedure designed to relax your rim to enhance anal intercourse.

Anti-wrinkle medication known as neurotoxins aka “Tox” or neuromodulators can help relax uptight overactive sphincter muscles. This treatment has been used to treat anal fissures by reducing sphincter tone. RimTox, however, is more recreational to improve the bottoming experience by facilitating penetration. This minimally invasive, nonsurgical, in-office procedure is quick, safe, effective, relatively painless, and requires minimal downtime.

What can I expect during my appointment?

For first-time patients, as with all of our medical services, a consultation is required to discuss medical history, goals, and expectations. A physical examination is also conducted.

Assuming you are an appropriate candidate, a low dose is administered during your initial treatment to gauge your response. Follow Up appointments are scheduled 2 weeks after treatment. If further relaxation is required, additional product can be injected during this visit. Dosing is slowly titrated to determine your minimum effective dose which results in relaxation without compromising too much sphincter tone. This way you do not become temporarily incontinent.

Is The Procedure Painful?

There may be mild discomfort. Patients do not describe the procedure as painful. A topical numbing cream is used for your comfort. You may feel pressure and a small pinch.

How Long Do The Results Last?

You may notice the effects begin at about 5-7 days. The peak response is typically 12-14 days. Relaxation lasts about 3 months give or take depending on dosage.

Will I Become Incontinent?

A slow and steady approach, in terms of dosing, is prudent to prevent temporary incontinence. A conservative dose is injected during your initial treatment. Follow up is conducted 2 weeks after injection. If more relaxation is needed, more can be injected on your follow-up visit. Relaxation without incontinence is the ideal response.
